Samyang adds one more wide-angle to its “Tiny Series” collection. So make way for the AF 35mm f / 1.8 FE, a fixed focal length for full-frame hybrids, which mainly stands out for its compactness, autofocus, and price of € 399.
As its name suggests, Samyang’s “Tiny Series” collection is designed to offer compact optics while relying, according to the Korean manufacturer, on “premium” manufacturing. The lens that will soon be added to this range, the AF 35mm f / 1.8 FE, seems to be no exception to the rule. With only 210 g on the scale (without cap or lens hood), this wide-angle lens is indeed among the lightest products on the market for this focal length. For comparison, the Sony-designed 35mm f / 1.8 FE mount weighs 70g more.
Samyang’s lens is, therefore, also intended for the full-frame sensor of the Sony E mount. Still, it can also be associated with APS-C cameras (for a focal length equivalent to 52.5 mm). According to the manufacturer, it will be suitable for both street and food photography. It is equipped with autofocus equipped with a linear STM motor and is advertised as silent.
Sold € 399 from October
Its optical construction, ten elements divided into eight groups, includes an aspherical lens. Samyang also claims that the circular 9-blade aperture should ensure a nice bokeh.
Samyang has integrated the “Custom Switch” function to this new focal length. Once the button is engaged, the focus ring can be assigned another role, such as aperture control. Other possible parts will be added during firmware updates in the future; for example, we can think of managing white balance or shutter speed. Finally, the optics are tropicalized.
The AF 35mm f / 1.8 FE should hit the market in early October at a target price of € 399. Note that a pre-order purchase (until September 28) of this product will allow you to take advantage of a free Samyang “Tiny Bag.”
